Sustainable development has become a critical global priority in responding to complex challenges such as climate change, social inequality, economic instability, and rapid digital transformation. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) emphasize that development must extend beyond economic growth to promote inclusive, equitable, and sustainable human well-being.
In Southeast Asia, rapid economic progress has often been accompanied by persistent inequality and environmental pressures. The Human Development perspective, particularly through Amartya Sen’s Capability Approach, underscores that development should focus on expanding people’s capabilities and freedoms.
In response to these challenges, the ICHDSF is organized as a multidisciplinary platform to facilitate academic dialogue, research exchange, and collaborative efforts aimed at advancing inclusive and sustainable development.
Provide an international platform for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to exchange knowledge on human development.
Promote interdisciplinary dialogue on social inclusion and sustainability.
Encourage evidence-based discussions that contribute to sustainable solutions.
Strengthen academic collaboration and international research networks.
We invite submissions of original research works on the theme "Expanding Human Development for a Just, Resilient, and Sustainable Future" across the following sub-themes:
Metrics, methodologies, and frameworks for measuring human capabilities in sustainability contexts.
This sub-theme is dedicated for research using the Capability Approach.
Addressing vulnerabilities, building resilience, and ensuring equitable resource distribution under climate stress.
Sustainable technology and digital transformation for inclusive well-being.
Climate-oriented resource management and sustainable agricultural practices.
Digital and culturally-rooted midwifery and public health considerations.
Fostering green economic growth that enables human flourishing.
Sustainable forest management and land use practices for conservation.
Philosophy, policy, and practices in advancing human development and sustainability.
Apart from individual submission, the conference also accept panels & alternative formats.
Panels consist of a convener, 3-4 presenters, and if possible, a discussant. Double sessions of at least 6 presenters are allowed. In an effort to remain open for discussion and avoid pre-packed propositions, all panels should be open to presenters from outside the host institution/project of the convenor.
Roundtables address current issues and new developments, and consist of a convener and max. 6 participants who prepare brief statements followed by audience discussion.
Conveners are encouraged to submit proposals for events adopting alternative formats, such as movie screening, book forums, roundtable conversations based on pre-circulated short papers, fireside chats or other informal interview formats, creative sessions, innovative methods workshops, or any productive alternative to the standard panel format.
